We just got back from the CEDIA Expo and everyone was talking about one thing: LIGHTING. There has been a major shift in our industry to focus on bespoke, optimized lighting. Smart lights have been around for some time, but the change is that every single fixture in the home from recessed cans to chandeliers to LED strips are now part of the scope of custom technology integrators.

Many probably think "well I'll just get my electrician to do this," which is the traditional way to do it. Many people talk about trends in technology around better speakers, stronger Wi-Fi, and bigger TVs, but the real trend in our industry is around concealment. Technology is easier to hide than ever before. This has lead to the rise popularity of the Frame TVs as manufacturers finally realize that the aesthetics of a space are just as important as the performance.
One hugely popular solution is the rise of invisible speakers. These are devices that can be installed inside the drywall, so that the speakers are truly 100% invisible. They have special acoustic properties and construction to allow them to vibrate just enough to provide incredible sound while remaining totally hidden. Many brands from Sonance to TruAudio to Stealth Acoustics have really been pushing these devices as they have skyrocketed in popularity.
Architects and designers in particular enjoy this trend, as the tech is getting easier and easier to integrate with their design, and even highlight design features.
